Certifying the provenance of products within the Halal supply chain is key for both suppliers and consumers.

Tokyo, Japan, June 23 2022. Muhammadiyah and Syarikat Islam recently unveiled a long-term partnership with the Tokyo based, blockchain and software company, Kenja K.K, to bring digital transformation to the process of Halal certification. Specifically, by using a new auditing platform powered by blockchain technology. By vertically integrating Kenja’s blockchain-enabled platform to their existing practices, the two largest Halal auditing bodies in Indonesia aim to enhance the quality of Halal auditing and simplify company certification.

Certifying the provenance of products within the Halal supply chain is key for both suppliers and consumers. Beyond adding value to suppliers, consumers rely on these labels to choose goods that are respectful to their culture and faith. However, for this trust to be sustained, transparency and traceability are required.

The immutable nature of blockchain responds fully to the complexities pertaining to traceability on a large scale. By leveraging Kenja’s four-phase end-to-end certification solution, Muhammadiyah and Syarikat Islam will be able to achieve full traceability on their sacred process. Moreover, it will enable them to streamline the auditing procedures, and empower end consumers by sharing relevant product information in both; a visual and intuitive way.

Since the start of Muhammadiyah and Kenja’s partnership, 58 auditors have already received training. As the testing phase draws to a close and production ramps up, the partnership is set to drive exports internationally and strengthen the brands.

“Kenja is proud to provide the technology to drive our partnership with iHalal.  We just started 6 months ago and we are off to a great start.  We have signed up 4 of the 8 Halal Certification agencies in the world’s largest Halal market.” – Ted Katagi, CEO Kenja

Rollout of the platform is expected to start in June.
